FAQs
Discover how MoyaCare can enhance the lives of seniors in your community.
Personal Care Shepherds (PCS) are paid, compassionate individuals dedicated to providing companionship, light assistance, and spiritual care to older adults. Through meaningful relationships and regular visits, they offer support that dramatically enhances the lives of seniors. PCSs offer a wide range of support tailored to seniors' needs, such as:
- Comfort and wellness support
- Mobility assistance
- Grooming
- Meal preparation and/or shared meals
- Technology support
- Light housekeeping
- Pet care
- Participation in recreational activities
- Transportation assistance
- Spiritual encouragement (upon request)
- Errands
Our caregivers are not professionally trained health providers. For safety and liability reasons, we are unable to provide services to individuals who have or require help with the following:
- Bathing and showering
- Catheter (any)
- Tracheostomy
- Colostomy or ostomy bag
- Injections
- IV
- Lift devices (e.g. Hoyer lift)
- Nutritional or oxygen tubes
- Medication administration (PCSs CAN help with medication reminders)
- Wound care
Every caregiver is required to pass background checks at the county, state, and federal levels. They must also succeed in interviews conducted by both Moya and local partner congregations to confirm their suitability.
The ratings and reviews of caregivers are consistently evaluated by both Moya and partner congregations to maintain quality after approval. This comprehensive vetting process guarantees that our seniors receive excellent care from reliable individuals in every interaction.
Personal Care Shepherds are paid hourly to provide tangible services and in-person companionship. SanctuaryPass unpaid volunteers associated with a local congregation that provide ongoing spiritual support and encouragement in the form of weekly messages and in-patient visitations should hospitalizations occur. They are also deployed by Moya and caregivers as additional eyes and ears on the ground in the event of emergencies.
The minimum home visit session length is 3 hours. However, our PCSs prefer longer sessions where they can meaningfully engage with seniors and build impactful and lasting relationships.
Spiritual engagement not required and tailored to your preferences if desired. For those interested, MoyaCare matches each senior with a faith-aligned PCS and trains these companions to offer emotional support that reflects the senior’s own beliefs—shared prayer, brief devotionals, gratitude practices, or simply faith-centered conversation. Participation is always senior-led and opt-in, with a focus on dignity, purpose, and overall well-being.
